Manifesto

Embracing My Rooster — A self-portrait in oil, depicting a grounded, full-bodied female figure tenderly holding a rooster. The figure’s feet and lower body are emphasized, reclaiming parts of the body often excluded from classical representation. The work explores themes of reconciliation with the animal self, fertility, and sacred embodiment.

At first I denied and then I delayed the responsibility to deliver an important message. I felt like a Jonah inside the fish, but in a comfortable way. (See the artwork “Jonah in the Fish”) . Then accelerating crises have pushed me out of my procrastinating cocoon.
In painting myself as Πετεινοκρατούσα, I assume the role of an oracle ready to declare the Manifesto: “I Accept”.

Manifesto: I Accept

Embracing my Rooster | 2021 | Painting (acrylics & oil pastels on wood | 90 x 90 cm

  • I accept and embrace all aspects of reality—not just the spiritual or ideal, but also the animal, the used, and the diminishing.
  • I recognize that our functions and wastes are not shameful but necessary—they nourish the cycle of life.
  • I believe that love for humanity is not enough; our care must extend to animals, plants, soil, and the global community of life.
  • I accept all roles—caregiver, composter, even the respectful consumer of life when needed.
  • I witness every phase: birth, flourishing, decline, decomposition, renewal.
  • I act: reducing waste, nourishing soil, closing the loop. I begin simply, with a worm bin: turning leftovers into future nourishment.
